Alright. What then?
Yeah, a lot of events are being cancelled. Did you have plans to go to Disney for spring break? POOF! Mickey’s chosen social distancing. Last night I planned to dine with friends and attend a concert. Just as we were getting ready to leave, BAM! Cancelled. I have two exciting trips planned in the next few months… Yikes! I don’t like having my plans messed with! Can you relate?
Sadness and disappointment come in other forms as well. Yesterday, I heard of three friends losing loved ones. (Not from THE virus, by the way.) Death especially has a way of robbing us of our plans, hopes, and dreams.
Proverbs 19:21 says “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Here’s the truth. our God of the universe knows ALL about what’s happening. He knows about your yesterdays, what’s occurring today, and He knows all about your tomorrows. “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:16b NIV)
Here’s my challenge to you. When the door closes on your hopes and dreams, ask God, “Alright, what then?” Obviously, if you are mourning the loss of a loved one, you have a few other steps before this. I am not suggesting you rush through the stages of grief. I’m not suggesting any of us rush through our feelings of sadness and disappointment. Our feelings are valid and understandable. But we don’t want to get stuck in anger, blame, and bitterness. It’s not a pretty place.
When our roads take an unexpected turn, and we feel like we’re out of control, we can take some action. The first is saying “Alright.” Alright represents acceptance. This is a big step, don’t miss it. Whether we agree with the measures taking place in our world right now or not, we must come to a place of acceptance. Not because we put our trust in the CDC or the government, but because we put our trust in our loving Lord.
“Alright. What then?”
Have a conversation with the God you trust. Knowing HE knows the future, ask Him, then what SHOULD I do. Do I reschedule? Cancel? More importantly, “What are You trying to teach me through all this, Lord?” He has a plan! He’s got this! There IS a purpose and a plan.
Many of my plans for 2020 are not coming to fruition. Now that I think of it, many of my plans for 2019 didn’t either. “Many are the plans of a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Alright, what then?
